Spring has finally arrived in Indiana. Arrived, and whooshed straight into 80-degree days, because that’s how we do spring in Indiana. Next week we’ll probably drop back into the 40s.
I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo this past April, and thanks to that and the Monthly Twitter Writing Challenge, I wrote 47,355 words in April. I’m thiiiiiiis close to being finished with the first draft of Stormseer. I’m actually considering this Draft One-Point-Five, because honestly, there have been a lot of revisions already. As it turns out, my cover artist isn’t available until next month at the earliest, so that removed some of the pressure I’d been placing on myself. I love Phuoc Quan’s art so much I don’t want to think about looking for another artist.
I’ve also been catching up on some reading. My uncle gave me a Barns & Noble gift card for Christmas and some time ago I picked up Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire. I promptly fell into a hole of Seanan McGuire books (I have dubbed her Seanan, Devourer of Sundays). I’m ready for book seven in her Toby Daye series (don’t spoil me!) and telling myself I can read them as a reward for finishing Stormseer.
Other things I’ve been reading & watching:
- Half-Resurrection Blues by Daniel José Older
- The 100 (Season Two)
- Inspector Lewis (up to Season Five I think?)
- The Light & Shadow series (Shadowborn, Shadowforged, & Shadow’s End) by Moira Katson
I’ve been doing a lot of bird-watching and hiking, too. I’m trying to learn more bird songs so I can be better at birding by ear. I saw a Northern Parula and a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher a couple of weeks ago, both of them life birds for me, as far as I can recall.
Hopefully the next time I post here, I’ll be able to say that Stormseer is complete and with my critique partners!
